SESSION A: Thursday, 11am-12pm (cont.)
Key takeaways:
1. Backwards-by-design supports differentiation and the
building of conceptual understanding from years 8-10.
2. Teaching to the Big Ideas scaffolds conceptual
understanding required to apply, analyse, and interpret linear
relationships in a range of problem-solving contexts.
Subtheme: Innovation and inspiration
3. Modelling engages students in the development of linear
equations to model bivariate relationships.
Empower and equip your students to thrive in the VCE
Mathematical Methods Exam 2 (2025) by proficiently using
the CAS technology. This session will provide insights into
practical and efficient CAS workflows specifically designed
to tackle the demands of the exam, empowering students to
become confident problem solvers.
A26 WOWEE! AI TOOLS FOR MODERN
MATHS TEACHERS
Subtheme: Innovation and inspiration
Lee McCullagh, Bendigo Senior Secondary College
(Year 9 to Year 12)
In this session, participants will be introduced to a range
of innovative AI tools that are transforming both the
class planning and classroom experience. Whether you’re
completely new to AI or already experimenting, this session
will showcase tools that are easy to use, classroom-ready,
and aligned with the needs of modern educators. A core
focus of the presentation will look at real world examples,
as well as discussing potential pitfalls, and sharing strategies
for integrating AI into your teaching without losing the
human touch. After this session, you will walk away with
fresh ideas, practical resources, and the confidence to
explore AI in your own classroom. It’s all about saving time,
increasing engagement, and embracing the future of Maths
in education.
Key takeaways:
1. Explore practical and useful AI tools that assist and enhance
planning and classroom delivery.
2. Understand the strengths and limits of AI through real
examples.
3. Discover a number of tools that you will be able to use
straight away.
Remember:
Ideally, bring computers to practice some of your newly
learned skills.

A27 UNLOCK VCE MATHEMATICAL
METHODS EXAM 2 (2025) SUCCESS WITH
CAS
Sanjeev Meston, Strathcona Girls Grammar
(Year 9 to Year 12)
In alignment with the MAV25 theme of ‘Thriving in
Mathematics,’ we will explore how strategic CAS integration
can foster a positive disposition towards mathematical tools
and cultivate the independent application of mathematical
concepts essential for future studies and real-world
engagement. This session will help unlock advanced
functionalities that streamline solutions and deepen
understanding.
Participants (Teachers) will gain actionable strategies for
incorporating CAS to create productive challenges, deliver
high-quality learning experiences, and ultimately enable
students to experience true engagement and enjoyment in
mastering mathematical methods. You will walk away with
techniques to elevate your teaching and your students’
performance in Exam 2.
Key takeaways:
1. Strategies for empowering and equipping students to thrive
in VCE Mathematical Methods Exam 2 (2025) through
proficient CAS use.
2. Insights into practical and efficient CAS workflows tailored
for the specific demands of the exam.
3. Understanding how strategic CAS integration aligns with
the MAV25 theme of ‘Thriving in Mathematics’.
Remember:
A handheld TI Nspire CX-II or Teacher software on the
Laptop. Attendees will be provided with th solution set on TI
Nspire and a PowerPoint. Additionally previous year CAS
solutions to Exam 2 will also be made available.
