Proportional reasoning is an essential skill, and travel provides
a wonderful context for considering rates, including currency
exchange and speed. In this session we will consider some
travel-based proportional reasoning problems that might
be of interest to students and highlight the use of the ‘dual
number line’ for helping with calculations.

reasoning situations. Teachers will engage in some classroomready activities and problems using a travel context.
