TOPIC DISCUSSION GROUPS
The MAV Annual Conference Committee has again scheduled special discussion group sessions on Thursday 3 December
2026, during Session D, from 3.10 pm to 4.10 pm. These sessions will be followed by the MAV26 Annual Conference
networking drinks.
Delegates are invited to join an engaging discussion group focused on a specific topic, providing an opportunity to share
knowledge, experiences and resources with colleagues from across the mathematics education community.
Each discussion group will be facilitated to support productive conversation, with a clear focus and guiding questions
provided to help steer the discussion. Delegates will be encouraged to actively contribute and collaborate, fostering a
supportive environment and building valuable professional networks.
These discussion groups provide an engaging forum to explore key issues in mathematics education, build valuable
professional connections, and strengthen your professional community.
The discussion groups will cover the following topics, with some tailored to specific year levels or teaching contexts:

Curriculum implementation
•
Mathematical modelling
•
Supporting students’ transition between primary and secondary school
•
Evidence-informed pedagogical practices
•
VCE and VM teaching, learning and assessment
•
Effective assessment practices
•
Leadership in mathematics and numeracy
•
Mathematical wellbeing – supporting students and teachers
•
Priority cohorts, including First Nations students, and regional and remote teachers
•
Supporting graduate and new career mathematics teachers.
